Maintaining an Even Keel

Even Keel refers to that state of internal equilibrium you need while performing on the creative edge. This also applies to people making internal change as they learn control of their responses while interacting with an unpredictable world. Whether close hauled to the wind, or on a broad reach, we all need to maintain an even keel in order to stay on course.

In her clinical practice, Dr. Hancox has two areas of specialization: Health Psychology and Sports Psychology.

Modes of Treatment

Since treatment is brief, usually 8-12 sessions, the client is expected to participate in developing the treatment plan and actively engage in therapy. Health and Sports Psychology includes problem focused, solution oriented methods which might include the following:

sailboat
  • Clinical Hypnosis - Dr. Hancox is a practicioner of Eriksonian Hypnosis: the intentional use of naturally occurring trance in the clinical setting. Problem solving is enhanced in a gentle and respectful manner. Hypnosis minimizes cognitive interference while augmenting learning strategies.
  • Stress Management - Examine the stuff of your life that stresses you out; find ways to eliminate that which is no longer needed, minimize the effect of too much to do in too little time and become more organized.
  • Relaxation Training - Learn to destress by connecting body and mind; become your own grounding rod. It begins with breathing, deeply, efficiently in a circular manner.
  • Structured Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - How do your thoughts affect your feelings and how you see the world? How does this vision affect your thoughts, feelings and behaviours? Old patterns of perception simply become outdated as we mature. Change is made easy when we think with both our minds.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - We cannot change events that have taken place. But the response and meaning attached to those events can certainly change. When images thoughts and feelings become integrated, the impact of trauma is desensitized and new patterns of adaptive coping emerge.
  • Imaginal Journeys - Story telling with embedded metaphor indirectly communicates the idea of change. The listener personalizes the content at the pace and level s/he is ready to receive. It is a fun way to experience your unconscious working.
